In a major boost to local agricultural industrialization and rural economic empowerment, the Bia East District Assembly has officially handed over a modern rice processing mill machine to a newly constituted local management committee at Camp 15 Junction.

The official handing over ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, 6th October 2026, marks a significant milestone in boosting local rice production, reducing post-harvest losses, and enhancing value addition for rice farmers across the district. The ceremony brought together officers from the District Agricultural Department, local rice farmer associations, traditional leaders, Assembly Members, and community residents where Management of the Bia East District Assembly formally transferred the operational custody of the rice processing mill and auxiliary machinery to the appointed committee members, who are tasked with overseeing its daily management, maintenance, and service delivery.

The facility is strategically located at Camp 15 Junction to serve as a central processing hub for surrounding farming communities. It will allow local rice growers to mill, process, and package high-quality local rice efficiently without traveling long distances. The management committee was entrusted with ensuring fair access, transparent financial management, routine equipment maintenance, and maximum operational efficiency for the benefit of all local farmers.

Speaking on behalf of Assembly management during the ceremony, the District Agric Director emphasized that investing in agricultural machinery directly aligns with national strategies for food security, import substitution, and job creation.

“Rice farming is a key economic driver in our district. By providing this processing mill and handing it over to a dedicated committee today, 6th October 2026, the Assembly is ensuring that our hardworking farmers can add value to their paddy rice, command higher market prices, and build sustainable livelihoods right here in Bia East.”

Accepting the mandate, representatives of the newly inaugurated management committee expressed profound gratitude to the Bia East District Assembly for the investment. They pledged to manage the facility with integrity, maintain the equipment to high standards, and ensure that all farmers in Camp 15 Junction and nearby communities derive maximum benefit from the facility.
