In a resolute effort to combat environmental degradation, promote ecological sustainability, and contribute to national climate action goals, the Bia East District Assembly has successfully organized a massive district-wide Tree Planting Exercise.

These environmental campaign brought together Assembly staff, traditional rulers, youth groups, school pupils, local farmers, and environmental protection officers to plant hundreds of indigenous and economic tree seedlings across public spaces, school compounds, degraded lands, and major watershed areas.

Seedlings were planted around school grounds, community centers, and administrative boundaries to provide natural shade, beautify public compounds, and educate young students on environmental stewardship. In addition to forest species, fruit and economic trees were distributed to local farmers to encourage agroforestry practices that protect topsoil, prevent erosion, and boost future household incomes.

Speaking during the exercise, the Hon. DCE underscored that local governments must take proactive steps to address global climate challenges through grassroots action.

“Climate change is no longer a distant threat; its impacts on weather patterns and agriculture are felt right here in our farming communities. By embarking on this tree planting exercise today, the Bia East District Assembly is taking direct responsibility to restore our vegetative cover, protect our water bodies, and secure a greener, healthier future for generations to come.”
