In line with government efforts to accelerate key infrastructure development and improve road transport networks across the country, the Minister for Roads and Highways has embarked on a comprehensive working and monitoring tour within the Bia East District.

The high-level inspection tour was conducted to assess the physical execution, engineering standards, and progress of work on ongoing road construction projects executed under the government’s flagship “Big Push” Infrastructure Initiative.

Accompanied by the Hon. Western North Regional Minister, Hon. District Chief Executive (DCE), technical engineers from the Ministry, District Works Department officers, and local Assembly leadership, the Minister inspected critical road corridors connecting major farming communities, market centers, and neighboring districts.

The delegation inspected ongoing earthworks, drainage construction, sub-base preparation, and gravelling/surfacing across major stretches targeted under the “Big Push” initiative. The Minister engaged directly with site contractors and supervising engineers, emphasizing that quality workmanship and strict adherence to structural guidelines are non-negotiable to ensure long-lasting road durability.

Addressing contractor timelines, the Minister urged the contractor to maintain steady momentum to completing critical stretches on schedule, minimize travel inconveniences for residents, motorists, and traders.

The Minister again highlighted that upgrading the road network in Bia East is vital for the economic growth of the Western North Region, particularly given the district’s high contribution to agricultural output, cocoa farming, and local commerce and indicated that “The ‘Big Push’ infrastructure agenda is specifically designed to transform rural economies by bridging the road deficit. Upgrading these major roads in Bia East will significantly ease the movement of goods, reduce travel time, prevent post-harvest losses for cocoa and food crop farmers, and stimulate local trade.”
