In a historic milestone for public health and environmental management, the Bia East District Assembly has successfully completed the evacuation of a 30-year-old refuse dump at Camp 15 Junction.
For three decades, the massive accumulation of solid waste at the site posed severe health, environmental, and safety hazards to nearby residents, business operators, and commuters. The complete clearing and remediation of the site mark a major achievement in the Assembly’s ongoing campaign to modernize waste management and elevate environmental standards across the district.
Following the physical removal of the refuse mound, Environmental Health Officers conducted comprehensive chemical disinfection and vector spraying to eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes, flies, and rodents.
Reflecting on the successful completion of the exercise, management highlighted that clearing a 30-year-old refuse dump is a proud moment of relief for the people of Camp 15 Junction and the entire Bia East District. For decades, our citizens lived with the health risks of this site. By taking bold administrative action to evacuate it completely, the Assembly has demonstrated its commitment to delivering a clean, safe, and dignified living environment for all.

To prevent the re-emergence of illegal dumping at Camp 15 Junction, the Bia East District Assembly has instituted strict preventative measures; Environmental Health Taskforces will conduct regular patrols around the reclaimed site, with strict penalties and fines enforced against anyone caught dumping waste illegally. Structured communal waste bins and collection systems have been positioned at approved locations to accommodate daily household waste.
Residents, traders, and traditional leaders at Camp 15 Junction expressed immense relief and gratitude to the Assembly leadership for tackling a health hazard that had persisted for generations.
