Department of Agriculture
The Extension services for cocoa, food crops and livestock farmers, pest and disease management, Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD) and nutrition education.
About this department
The Department of Agriculture promotes sustainable and productive farming in Bia East, a district whose economy rests largely on cocoa, food crops and small livestock.
Extension officers work directly with farmers and farmer groups in the communities, offering advice on good agronomic practices, planting material, pest and disease control, post-harvest handling and access to markets.
Through the Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD) unit, the Department also trains households in food processing, storage and the preparation of nutritious meals from locally available foodstuffs.
